Rafael T. M. de Rosales (Granada, Spain) obtained his BSc in Chemistry from the Universidad de Granada in 2001. He then moved to Scotland to carry out PhD studies in bioinorganic chemistry at the University of Edinburgh. During this time, he synthesized and developed small metal complexes as synthetic models of nucleases (the enzymes that cleave DNA and RNA). In 2004 he moved to the University of Naples (Italy) thanks to a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship and developed one of the first biomimetic synthetic metallopeptides capable of catalysing oxidation reactions in collaboration with Prof. A. Lombardi and Prof. V. Pavone. After one year he returned to the UK and joined the groups of Dr. G. Britovsek and Prof. V. C. Gibson FRS at Imperial College London where he explored novel bio-inspired transition metal complexes as oxidation catalysts. In 2007, he moved to the Division of Imaging Sciences & Biomedical Engineering at King’s College London, where he has developed several radiometal probes for the imaging of bone metastases using PET and SPECT as well as novel methods to radiolabel and image nanomedicines.
