Prof. Dr. Rafael Scaf de Molon completed his Master's degree in Dentistry at Sao Paulo State University– UNESP in 2012. He received PhD degree in Dentistry, in the field of Periodontology in 2016 at the same University. During the years 2013-2015, he completed the Research Fellow at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), USA, in the Department of Oral Biology and Periodontology. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, The Netherlands in the Department of Experimental Rheumatology during the years 2016-17. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Clinical Dentistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ, School of Dentistry.

His research line focuses on inflammatory bone diseases with a main focus on the pathogenesis and treatment of experimental periodontal disease (PD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study of animal models of PD and osteonecrosis of the jaws is my second research pillar. Our studies aimed to test potential new therapeutic agents in mouse models of PD to even better translation of therapeutic targets from bench to bedside.

Dr. de Molon serves as a member of the American Association for Bone and Mineral Research and the International Association for Dental Research. He also has significant experience in scientific publishing, serving as Academic Editor of Biomed Research International. Currently, Dr. de Molon has more than 96 published manuscripts in scientific journals in the field of Dentistry and Oral Biology.
