Rafael Alfonso Cristancho MD, MSc, PhD

Rafael Alfonso-Cristancho, MD, MSc, Ph.D., is the Director of Value Evidence Analytics (VEA) in R&D at GSK. VEA is the Center of Excellence for methodological and analytical support for value evidence generation to improve healthcare decision-making. Prior to joining GSK, he was the Scientific Director of the Surgical Outcomes Research Center (SORCE) and the Comparative Effectiveness Research and Translation Network (CERTAIN), and faculty in the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health at the University of Washington in Seattle.

His research is focused on disease and economic models, comparative effectiveness research, and behavioral economics. He has been an advisor for the Pan American Health Organization, government agencies, and private insurers on the development and improvement of health technology assessment in different countries.

Alfonso-Cristancho previously served as a member of the Advisory Panel on Assessment of Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Options and the Advisory Panel on Clinical Effectiveness and Decision Science from August 2016 to August 2019.
