Dr. med. R. Michael Dutescu, born in 1979, studied medicine at the Philipps University of Marburg. Further training to become a specialist in ophthalmology took place at the renowned Charité University Eye Clinic, Campus Virchow Klinikum, Berlin. From 2012 to 2017 he completed his operational training at the municipal clinics in the city of Cologne. Most recently as a senior physician with a focus on the treatment of ametropia, cataracts, and vitreous and retinal surgery.
He has been practicing eye surgery at Theaterplatz 17 since 2018. As an attending physician at the Luisenhospital, he is following in the footsteps of his father, Prof. Dr. M. Dutescu, who founded the Department of Ophthalmology there. His scientific work led him via the Center for Eye Research, CERA, Melbourne, Australia, and the experimental research facilities of the Charité, Berlin, ultimately to the Center for Technology Transfer in Ophthalmology, (ACTO eV), an affiliated institute of RWTH Aachen. Here, in addition to his medical work, he continues to transfer findings from basic research into clinical practice.
