Dr. Qin Liu is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and an Assistant Scientist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Her research focuses on inherited retinal degenerations, ocular genomics, and the development of CRISPR/Cas-based gene-editing therapies for retinal diseases. Trained as an ophthalmologist, Dr. Liu earned her PhD in Molecular Ophthalmology from Peking Union Medical College and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania’s F.M. Kirby Center for Molecular Ophthalmology.

Her work investigates the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying retinal degenerative disorders and ciliopathies, to advance precision therapies for conditions that are difficult to treat using conventional gene augmentation methods. She has contributed significantly to research on photoreceptor sensory cilia and retinitis pigmentosa and is actively developing next-generation genome-editing strategies for dominant and large-gene inherited retinal diseases.
