His spectrum ranges from being an adept bronchoscopist both therapeutic and diagnostic, treating all diffuse lung diseases, with a unique skill, extremely confident in treating drug resistant tuberculosis, handling obstructive lung diseases with ease to grass root levels of preventive care. He gives equal importance to smoking cessation and educating patients about lung hygiene. A big feather in his armamentarium is the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center which he runs at Goregaon in Mumbai. It is unique Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centre (Pratibha Prabhakar Rehabilitation centre) managed by talented Respiratory Physiotherapist specialized in Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Dr. Prabhudesai reinforces the importance of adult vaccination, exercise, yoga and good nutrition in the management of respiratory diseases. Hailing from a humble background, the beautiful scenic coast of Konkan, he studied respiratory medicine in the island city of Mumbai at Topiwala National Medical College and BYL Nair Charitable Hospital. After outstanding results, he moved on to become a lecturer in G S Medical College and KEM hospital Mumbai. He then went on to start his private practice. He is presently attached to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai. He was in charge of Respiratory Medicine and TB centre at Bhabha Hospital, Bandra for seven years.
Dr. Prabhudesai is a member of the Indian Chest Society, European Respiratory Society and is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians as well. He is a DNB teacher with PG students under him, and is involved in a lot of academic activities. Besides being a busy, energetic, devoted, chest physician, he has varied interests. He is a sports enthusiast. He has an ear for music and is an excellent photographer. His biggest assets are his comforting bedside manners and communication skills.
