Pilar Laguna MD, PhD

Pilar Laguna qualified in medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, in 1979. Following completion of her training as urologist she joined the medical staff at Hospital del Sagrado Corazon and later Fundacion Puigvert in Barcelona. She was appointed chairman at the Hospital Gral La Mancha Centro in Alcazar de San Juan in 1995 and moved in 2000 to the Netherlands. At present she is a member of the medical staff of the department of Urology at the AMC University Hospital in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She is appointed professor Urological Oncology.

Pilar Laguna has participate in the committee in of the International Consultation Urological Diseases on Renal Stone disease, kidney Cancer and Focal Therapy patronised by the World Health Organisation (WHO). She is past chairman of the EAU guidelines committee on testicular cancer and serves at present as committee member. She is past chairperson of the Ablative working party of the EAU Section of Uro-Technology (ESUT). Her main interest is Renal Cancer and she is one of the pioneers of developing programs on renal cryosurgery in Europe. She has been appointed chairperson of the Renal Mass study that is conducted by the Clinical Research Office of the Endourological Society (CROES). She is a member of the Expert team of the SIU Academy of the Societe International d’Urologie (SIU).

Pilar Laguna is a member of various urological societies including the American Urological Association (AUA), the European Association of Urology (EAU), the Endourological Society and the Société International d’Urologie (SIU). She is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Endourology, European Urology, Journal of Urology, the BJU International and the World Journal of Urology

Pilar Laguna has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles in the field of urology, with special focus on minimally invasive therapy, oncological urology and endourology. She co-authors a book on testicular cancer and has published over 20 book-chapters.
