Pieter Annaert graduated as a pharmacist from KU Leuven in 1994 and obtained his PhD from the same university in 1998. During 1999-2000 he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Between 2001 and 2005, he was a (senior) scientist in the devision of preclinical pharmacokinetics of Janssen Pharmaceutica (J&JPRD, Belgium). In 2006 he joined the KU Leuven Drug Delivery and Disposition lab, where he is currently full professor in the field of Mechanistic Pharmacokinetics focusing on hepatobiliary drug disposition, drug transporters, drug interactions, drug-induced hepatotoxicity, pediatric drug development and physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling. He is currently supervising a group of 5 PhD students. In the past 12 years, he has been promotor or co-promotor of 18 PhD researchers. Prof. Annaert has (co-) authored more than 125 research articles and several book chapters and currently serves on the editorial boards of Drug Metabolism and Disposition, Xenobiotica and Current Therapeutic Research. Since 2014, he is program director for the Bachelor and Master programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences at KU Leuven. He is co-founder and scientific advisor of the bioanalytical and pharmacometrics service company BioNotus (Niel, Belgium).
