Dr. Pierpaolo Pellicori is a clinical cardiologist currently working as a senior clinical research fellow in the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics at the University of Glasgow with an honorary consultant cardiologist contract with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
He obtained his medical degree from Sapienza University in Rome and completed his specialist training in Cardiology in 2008 from the same institution. He spent his last 9 months of training abroad at a tertiary center (RWTH University, Aachen, Germany) to improve his skills in advanced echocardiography. He subsequently worked for 6 months with an Italian Charity (Emergency) in Sudan and then applied for GMC registration before moving to the UK in 2010.
Over the past ten years, he has combined both research and clinical duties. He has published more than 100 papers, many in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. He has received numerous prizes in recognition for his work, including being shortlisted several times and twice winning the young investigator award (YIA) at the British Society of Heart Failure (BSH) Annual Meeting. His proudest achievement so far was an award from the American College of Cardiology for one of the two most relevant papers published by a young cardiologist in JACC-cardiovascular imaging in 2013. He is accredited by the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) in adult transthoracic echocardiography, and he obtained a level 2 certificate in cardiac CT.
His current area of interest is the use of new imaging modalities as tools to quantify clinical congestion with greater precision. He is fully committed to a career as an academic clinician and looks forward to collaborating with enthusiastic colleagues from all over the world.
