Pierluigi is a Director of the Operative Unit of Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery of ASST G. Pini - CTO of Milan since 2016 and he was Head of the Department of Microsurgery of the CTO Hospital of Turin from 2009 to 2016. He is currently Past President of the Italian Society of Microsurgery and Coordinator of GIMETRA (Italian Group of Microsurgery and Reconstructive Techniques of the Arts), a superspecialistic company of SIOT (Italian Society of Orthopedics).

Microsurgery is a delicate, refined and demanding surgical technique that involves the use of optical magnification (operating microscope, loupes) to suture and dissect very small anatomical structures (vessels with a caliber of a few tenths of a millimeter); in particular, the field of use of this technique is peculiar in the reconstructive field in plastic surgery, in orthopedic surgery and in hand surgery where the knowledge and techniques of the two specialties converge.
