Philippe Vielh MD, PhD, FIAC

Philippe Vielh was born in Aix-en-Provence (France). He graduated as an MD and a board-certified pathologist from the Faculty of Medicine, and as a Ph.D. in Immunology from the Institut Pasteur, both in Paris (France). He has a "Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches" (HDR) from the Faculty of Sciences. Philippe Vielh was head of cytopathology at the Institut Curie, Paris for thirteen years, then moved to the Institut de Cancérologie Gustave Roussy, Villejuif near Paris where he was Director of cytopathology from 2003 till 2015. He is now working at the National Laboratory of Health in Luxembourg.

He is particularly interested in the study of genomics and transcriptomics of breast and thyroid tumors and is a member of the U981 INSERM (Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique). He is the author or co-author of more than 240 articles, published in peer-reviewed journals, 15 book chapters, and 5 books. He served as President of the French Society of Clinical Cytology (SFCC) for 10 years (1996-2006) and organized the 31st European Congress of Cytology in Paris (2005), where he was elected Secretary-General of the European Federation of Cytology Societies (EFCS) and served from 2005 till 2012. He is the recipient of the 2007 L.C. Tao "Educator of the Year" award given by the Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology, and a Fellow of the IAC. He chaired the 18th IAC congress in Paris (May 26-30, 2013) and is currently the President of IAC for the 2013-2016 period of time.
