Prof. Dr. Philippe Gevaert (MD, Ph.D.) is an ENT specialist at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the University of Ghent, Belgium. Since 1998, he has been active in the Upper Airway Research Laboratory at the University of Ghent (Prof. Dr. Paul Van Cauwenberge and Prof. Dr. Claus Bachert). In 2001, he was working at the Department of Clinical Immunology, Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden (Prof. Dr. S.G.O. Johansson). His research was focused on local IgE expression and eosinophilic inflammation in allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps. In 2004, he passed his Ph.D. thesis on ‘Eosinophilic inflammation in nasal polyposis: regulation of interleukin 5 and interleukin 5 receptor α isoforms'. Currently, his research is centered on local IgE in (non)allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps. He published over 70 peer-reviewed papers and received 9 (inter)national research awards.

From 2003 to 2005, he was Chair of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) JMA, member of the executive committee and the scientific program committee of the EAACI. From 2009 to 2011, he was Chair of the Interest Group on Infection and Allergy and a member of the scientific program committee of the EAACI. Currently, he is Head of the Allergy Network of the Ghent University Hospital, and his clinical and research activities are focused on local IgE in both allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps. He has completed several academic clinical trials with novel treatments for nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis.
