Philip Peyton’s research interests range widely from basic and applied science in anesthetic physiology and pharmacology to large clinical trials in perioperative medicine. He has over 100 publications in journals and textbooks, with more than 2,500 citations, and has delivered over 50 invited presentations at local and international meetings. He is the current Chair of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Clinical Trials Network, and has been a Chief Investigator in several large multicentre international clinical trials in anaesthesia including the MASTER Trial, ENIGMA trials and the RELIEF Trial, and is passionate about the importance of large trial data to improve the quality of evidence for clinical practice in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. He is leading the ROCKet Trial, investigating the potential effect of perioperative ketamine on the risk of development of chronic postsurgical pain. He is an expert in the physiology of lung gas exchange during anesthesia and the pharmacology of inhaled anesthetic gases, and their application to the field of advanced cardiovascular monitoring in the anesthetized patient.
