Philip Marsh gained BSc Honours in Genetics & Microbiology from the University of Sheffield, UK, in 1970 and PhD Microbiology from the University of London, Westminster Medical School, UK, in 1975. He currently holds positions as Professor of Oral Microbiology, University of Leeds School of Dentistry and Chief Scientific Leader, Public Health England (PHE) Porton, Salisbury. He is also R&D Lead, PHE Respiratory Infections Programme Board & R&D Lead, PHE TB Programme Delivery Board.

He is a recipient of 5 national and international awards for his research, is a regular speaker at national and international conferences, and has delivered 5 ‘named lectures’, including the First Graham Embury Memorial Lecture, BSODR, Dundee 2005. He is a referee for a number of international journals and grant awarding bodies.
