Dr. Petra HM Peeters, Ph.D. is a professor of chronic disease epidemiology at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care (University Medical Center Utrecht, UMCU, Utrecht, The Netherlands). She was also appointed to the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the School of Public Health (Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College, London, UK, 2007 to 2017).

She finished Medical School (Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands, 1984) and obtained her Ph.D. in medicine at Nijmegen University (1984-89, thesis: side effects of breast cancer screening). Subsequently, she became an associate professor of clinical epidemiology at the Julius Center. (1989 to 2009) She started one of the two Dutch cohort studies participating in the international EPIC (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition ( https://www.epicnl.eu/ ) study and was an EPIC Steering Committee member(1991 to 2017). She is a member of the Dutch Epidemiology Society (VvE, 1990 to date). She is a senior teacher in several (inter)national epidemiology courses. She co-authored over 800 papers, mostly related to cancer and lifestyle; and the early detection of breast cancer.
