Peter Mitchell is an interventional neuroradiologist and Director of the NeuroIntervention Service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH). His appointments include the Royal Children's Hospital as visiting consultant for neurointervention and the University of Melbourne Department of Radiology.

Dr. Mitchell has introduced new techniques for treating and investigating neurovascular disease at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, including intracranial aneurysm embolization with detachable coils in 1995, NBCA and Onyx AVM embolization, intra-arterial thrombolysis for acute ischaemic stroke, intracranial angioplasty and stenting, and neonatal Vein of Galen management.

He has published over 100 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, including the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, development of intra-arterial treatments for acute ischaemic stroke, the investigation into Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, and pediatric cerebrovascular conditions including Vein of Galen malformations.
