Peter Kurre MD

Dr. Peter Kurre, MD, is a physician-scientist and pediatric hematologist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he serves as Director of the Comprehensive Bone Marrow Failure Center and holds the Buck Family Endowed Chair in Hematology. He is also a Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine.

Dr. Kurre specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of bone marrow failure disorders, with a particular focus on Fanconi anemia and other inherited hematologic conditions. His work integrates clinical care with translational research aimed at improving diagnostic precision, advancing genomic testing approaches, and developing innovative therapies, including stem cell transplantation and gene therapy.

His research centers on hematopoietic stem cell biology and the mechanisms underlying bone marrow failure. His laboratory has made significant contributions to understanding the developmental origins of stem cell deficits, particularly demonstrating that abnormalities in Fanconi anemia begin early in life. The lab also investigates extracellular vesicle signaling in the bone marrow microenvironment and develops next-generation gene therapy strategies to restore stem cell function.
