Peter E. Carson MD, FACC

Peter Carson, MD, is a Director of Heart Failure Program at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Carson completed his MD at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX; residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University Medical School, University­Hospital in Cleveland, OH; fellowship in Cardiology at University of Minnesota School of Medicine in Minneapolis, MN; and research fellowship at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

Dr. Carson is an active practicing cardiologist, educator, and researcher. He is Chief of the outpatient and inpatient heart failure service at a teaching hospital and is involved in training an average of 12 fellows and 30 residents per year. He has been a leader in heart failure research, particularly in areas of special populations (eg, African Americans), preserved ejection fraction, and endpoint adjudication. As a researcher, Dr. Carson has been in a leadership role in most of the clinical trials for twenty years, including as member/chair of endpoints committees or data monitoring boards.
