Peter qualified at Manchester in 1974 and worked as a GP principal in both Doncaster and Ilkley
where he developed a longstanding involvement in GP education. In 2000, he commenced work for
Bradford Health Authority and set up an inner city GP recruitment and retention scheme to attract
GPs to work in inner city Bradford from where he was seconded to the Department of Health (DH)
as GP Recruitment Adviser in 2005-06.
Peter was Medical Director of NHS Bradford and Airedale from 2006-2010, a post which included
responsibility for clinical quality and safety together with practitioner performance issues. He was
closely involved with the DH/GMC Affiliate pilot scheme in West Yorkshire as part of revalidation
and following partial retirement to South Wales in 2010 is working at NCAS as a Senior Policy
Adviser.
His role there includes senior stakeholder engagement, input into NCAS’ educational
activities and assessment reports. Peter is also the Responsible Officer for the NHS Litigation
Authority and has responsibility for managing the Health Professional Alert Notice system across
the UK.
