Professor Peter Bradding is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Leicester and Honorary Consultant Physician at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. His research is focused on understanding the basic mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of asthma with the aim of uncovering novel therapeutic targets. A major interest is the role of mast cells in asthma pathophysiology. His research has contributed several major advances in the field of mast cell biology and our understanding of their role in asthma. Recent work has examined interactions between the ?2-adrenoceptor and the stem cell factor receptor (Kit), the role of cell adhesion molecule-1 on mast cell interactions with airway smooth muscle cells, and the role of ion channels in mast cell functional responses.
