Dr. Peter Black is a Urologic Oncologist at Vancouver General Hospital, a Research Scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He received his undergraduate degree from UBC and his medical degree from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. He completed his urologic training at the University of Washington in Seattle and fellowship in urologic oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Black has a clinical subspecialty interest in bladder cancer. He also maintains a grant-funded translational research program in urothelial carcinoma with a focus on genomic analysis of response to chemotherapy, mechanisms of resistance to chemotherapy, and novel targeted therapies for bladder cancer. For example, one of his main laboratory projects relates to Notch signaling in bladder cancer and how to modulate this pathway for therapeutic purposes. He is an active clinical trialist in his field and is currently leading a cooperative group trial testing an immune checkpoint inhibitor in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. Dr. Black has authored >180 peer-reviewed publications and his scientific work has been published in >300 abstracts at national and international meetings
