Peter Bela Illei MD

Dr. Peter Bela Illei is an assistant professor of pathology in the Division of Surgical Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include pathology and laboratory medicine, pulmonary pathology, and transplant pathology. Dr. Illei is the director of the Immunopathology Laboratory.

Dr. Illei earned his medical degree from University Pécs Medical School. He completed his residency at New York University Medical Center in pathology and performed a fellowship in oncologic pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Illei’s research interests include the development of novel immunohistochemical and molecular markers for the diagnosis of solid tissue tumors, pathology of lung cancer, pathology of lung transplantation, and pathology of thymic neoplasms. Dr. Illei received the Pulmonary Pathology Society First Prize at the 91st Annual Meeting of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
