Dr. Paul Yong is an obstetrician-gynecologist with fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery, and an assistant professor in the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and PI of the UBC Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Laboratory. Clinically, he works at the BC Women’s Centre for Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis and the BC Centre for Vulvar Health. He also collaborates closely with OV CARE.

Yong’s research program is focused on endometriosis and sexual pain. Endometriosis affects 10% of reproductive-aged women (or ~1 million women in Canada) and is a common cause of pelvic pain and infertility. In particular, endometriosis causes pelvic pain with deep penetration during sexual activity (deep dyspareunia), which has major impacts on sexual function and relationships. Currently, Yong is funded by a CIHR Project Grant to investigate somatic mutations and local neurogenesis in endometriosis-associated deep dyspareunia. His other interests include the role of central nervous system sensitization and the development of patient-oriented outcomes (PROs) for sexual pain in endometriosis.f
