Paul R. Carney, MD, FANA, FAES, FAAP, is a distinguished pediatric neurologist, epileptologist, physician-scientist, educator, entrepreneur, and academic leader with internationally recognized expertise in epilepsy, pediatric neurology, clinical neurophysiology, sleep medicine, and neuroengineering. He currently serves at the University of Missouri-Columbia and has held numerous academic and leadership positions at leading institutions, including the University of Florida and the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Carney's career spans clinical care, biomedical research, innovation, and medical education. His research focuses on epilepsy pathophysiology, seizure prediction, brain-computer interfaces, neural engineering, neuroimaging, artificial intelligence in neuroscience, and precision medicine. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and patents involving real-time brain monitoring systems, epilepsy detection technologies, and neuromodulation.
A recognized leader in pediatric epilepsy, Dr. Carney is a Fellow of the American Neurological Association (FANA), American Epilepsy Society (FAES), and American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).
