Paul Mitchell is a medical retinal specialist and Professor of ophthalmology at the University of Sydney, and Director of Ophthalmology for the Sydney West Area. His clinical work focuses on the management of AMD, diabetic and other vascular retinopathies and on systemic diseases and their effects on the eye.

He conducted the world renowned Blue Mountains Eye Studies which provided unique information about the incidence of the disease in an Australian population, including proving the link between smoking and Macular Degeneration.

Paul was awarded the 2004 Association of International Glaucoma Societies (AIGS) award for research into the epidemiology of glaucoma. He has served in many organisations and was elected in 2007 as the Trustee for the Clinical & Epidemiologic Research section of the Association for Research in Vision & Ophthalmology (ARVO).
