Paul John Limburg, MD, MPH, is Chief Medical Officer for Screening at Exact Sciences (Madison, WI). He is also an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, after a 25-year career in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology (retired July 2022).
Dr. Limburg's previous leadership positions at Mayo Clinic include Medical Director for Global Business Solutions, Medical Director for the Office of Wellness, Medical Director for the Healthy Living Center, Physician Lead for Prediction and Prevention (Center for Innovation), and Co-Leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program (Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center). In addition, he led a multi-disciplinary International Strategy team and was a member of the enterprise-wide Mayo Clinic Management Team, Clinical Practice Committee, and Office of the President Physician Leaders group.
Dr. Limburg has been actively engaged in cancer screening innovation, molecular epidemiology, and chemoprevention agent development through continuous research funding from the U. S. National Cancer Institute and other organizations for more than two decades. His research achievements have been recognized by induction into the American Society for Clinical Investigation and Sigma Xi honor societies, as well as fellowship designation in the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF). Dr. Limburg was also selected to serve as Program Chair for the American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research conference (2013). To date, he has published over 200 articles, commentaries, editorials, and book chapters.
Dr. Limburg has received numerous honors and awards over the course of his career, including a Cancer Prevention Laurel for Dedication to Community Programs from the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation of America, a National Cancer Institute Career Development Award, and the Mayo Clinic Karis Award for extraordinary professional service, among others.
