Paul J. Gilligan is a medicinal and organic chemist with extensive experience in drug design and development at multinational pharmaceutical companies and innovation at contract research organizations. Paul delivered six candidate compounds from research into pre-clinical development, three candidates into Phase 1 trials, and one compound into Phase 2 trials. He has broad experience in neuroscience and cardiovascular drug discovery. Paul led discovery research project teams as a chemistry working group co-chair. He set a strategy to overcome challenges in pharmacokinetics and toxicology. He contributed to business development, patent strategy, and licensing activities. Paul also managed the research of collaborators from external alliances in India and America to meet project objectives and delivery timelines for intermediates and final products. He has discovered new chemical syntheses at a chemistry CRO for projects from pharmaceutical and chemical clients. He has been a scientific adviser to private foundations and entrepreneurs. He has discovered diverse synthetic methods to prepare a variety of chemotypes from small molecule targets to complex macrocycles, heterocycles to carbohydrates, and materials science targets to natural products on a variety of scales (mg to Kg). He is the author of 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals and an inventor of 32 published US patents and 18 published foreign patents.
