Professor Paul W. Franks is appointed to the new position of Scientific Director of Patient Care in the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Paul W. Franks is highly experienced within the field of precision medicine, which will also be his focus area, when he starts up on 17 May 2021 in the department of the foundation that has collaborated with the Danish regions and the Government of Greenland on the establishment of five specialized Steno Diabetes Centers in Denmark and diabetes and lifestyle center in Greenland. The vision for all the centers is to provide world-class treatment for people with diabetes. Paul Franks obtained a master's degree in epidemiology and biostatistics (2000) and a Ph.D. in genetic epidemiology (2003) from the Institute of Public Health, University of Cambridge. The topic of his doctoral thesis was the interaction of genetic and lifestyle factors in the etiology of type 2 diabetes. Dr. Franks undertook a post-doctoral fellowship (2003-05) at the NIDDK epidemiology and clinical research branch in Phoenix, Arizona, where he focused on the genetic and molecular epidemiology of type 2 diabetes.
