Paul F. Austin, MD, a professor of surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will receive the John W. Duckett Pediatric Research Excellence Award from the American Urology Association’s Urology Care Foundation. The award, to be presented May 7 during the association’s annual meeting in San Diego, honors Austin’s research on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that contribute to disease progression following congenital urinary obstruction, with the goal of advancing the discovery of new drug targets and treatments. Director of the School of Medicine’s pediatric urology research, Austin also investigates pediatric incontinence, congenital abnormalities and conducts numerous clinical trials. The Duckett award is presented annually to a U.S. physician, scientist, or researcher for exceptional pediatric research and for advancing treatment and improving the quality of life for children with urologic conditions.
