Dr. Paul E. Tornambe, M.D., F.A.C.S. is the immediate past president of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He is Director of the San Diego Retina Research Foundation and is an inactive private practice with offices in La Jolla and Poway California. His practice is limited to medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. He was director of the Retina Service at Loma Linda Hospital from 1980 to 1984 and has been an Associate Clinical Professor in Ophthalmology at U.C.S.D.

He has been an invited speaker at Harvard, New England Medical Center, Cornell, Duke, Bascom Palmer (Miami), University of Chicago, and Emory in the United States and around the world including Japan, Germany, Italy, Greece, England, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, and 
Guatemala. He has been the Principal Clinical Investigator for Clinical Research Studies for new therapies for Diabetes, Macular Degeneration, and Retinal Detachment. He has published extensively in the Ophthalmology peer-reviewed literature on topics including Pneumatic Retinopexy for office-based retinal detachment repair, macular hole surgery without face-down positioning, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration treatments.
