Paul is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, with a Masters in Health Administration and specialised interests in public and global health. He joined the Department of Immigration in December 2006 as the Chief Medical Officer, with a role in advising and delivering a health programme at a global and national level. This role is challenging and complex and responsible for provision of current and expert health medical advice on the migration health requirement and on immigration and public health policy issues more broadly. The CMO DIBP ensures consistency of health policy across the organisation and provides clinical advice on immigration detention health as well as refugee and settlement issues. He is an active member of the Immigration Health & Refugee Working Group (IHRWG) along with counterparts from USA, Canada, NZ and UK; that is collaborating on migration health matters in the areas of TB, refugee health and alignment of premigration health
