Paul de Bakker is professor of Genetic Epidemiology and Bioinformatics at the University Medical Center Utrecht. He leads a group researching the influence of DNA on common diseases. It’s long been known that many diseases (such as type 2 diabetes) have a genetic component. Using the latest technologies such as next-generation sequencing, De Bakker and his group are shedding light on the various genetic differences that play a part in the development of a disease.
