Professor Paul Bloom’s research explores how children and adults make sense of the physical and social world, with special focus on morality, religion, and fiction. His books include How Pleasure Works, Just Babies, and, most recently, Against Empathy: The Case for Rational Compassion. At Yale, Bloom teaches Introduction to Psychology as well as seminars on topics such as The Seven Deadly Sins and The Cognitive Science of Pleasure. In addition to scholarly publications, his work has appeared in The Atlantic, New York Times, and The New Yorker.
