Prof Ashley qualified with BDS in Manchester in 1991 and completed his PhD in Caries Diagnosis in 1997 at the same university. He has been working at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute since 1998 where he now runs the Professional Doctorate in Paediatric Dentistry and is deputy program director for the MSc in Paediatric Dentistry.
Prof Ashley is Programme Director for the DDent in Paediatric Dentistry and Deputy Programme Director for the MSc in Paediatric Dentistry. He held the position of Director of Education (Operations) for the UCL Eastman Dental Institute from 2007 to 2008. He teaches on aspects of caries and prevention for the majority of the other programmes at the Eastman and also lectures on this and other paediatric topics for the Eastman's Continuing Professional Development Programme. Other teaching duties have included local and national FDS and MFDS courses, development of education material for dental therapist training, teaching and examining dental nurses and invited lectures within the UK and overseas.
