Patrick Phelan is the executive director of Hospital Business Development at The Joint Commission. In this role, he is responsible for leading strategy and growth for The Joint Commission’s Hospital Accreditation Program and Strategic Business Unit for Certification. He recently served as associate director of Business Development at The Joint Commission. Mr. Phelan has extensive experience in marketing, relationship management and business development in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries. Previously, he was a territory business leader at Valeritas, a commercial-stage medical technology company, where he oversaw marketing activities for an insulin delivery device. He also was a specialty territory manager at Amylin Pharmaceuticals, and a pharmaceutical representative at Pfizer where he was responsible for generating sales, staff training and analytics content.
Mr. Phelan received his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in finance, from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska.
