Professor Patrick Pessaux is the Head of the Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic surgical Unit in the Department of Digestive and Endocrine Surgery at the University Hospital of Strasbourg, a Professor at the University of Medicine of Strasbourg, and a Researcher in the field of hepato-biliairy and pancreatic diseases and of minimally invasive surgery at the IRCAD Institute of Strasbourg.

After a residency and a fellowship in General and Digestive Surgery, a graduation in medical Studies, he specialized himself in hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery and in liver transplantation with Professor Jacques Belghiti in Beaujon Hospital. He develops a clinical and fundamental research and he holds a PhD thesis in « Analysis of Heath Systems” since 2006. He is member of the fundamental research unit INSERM U1110 LabEx HepSys « Interactions virus-hôtes et maladies hépatiques ». He is Professor of Surgery since 2007.

Highly interested in new technologies, the mini-invasive and robotic surgery, he has been implied in the launching of the hepato-biliary and pancreatic programs and courses at the three IRCAD (Research Institute Against Digestive Cancer) sites (Strasbourg, Taiwan, Brazil). In 2012, he accepted to join the newly created Image-guided Hybrid Surgery Institute (IHU) of Strasbourg in order to develop a program of research in excellence, future, innovative, multidisciplinary, and image-guided hepatobiliary surgery.

Professor Patrick Pessaux has authored about two hundred peer-reviewed scientific publications. As a guest speaker, he took part in more than two hundred national and international conferences.
