Dr. Patrick Riggins received his undergraduate degree from University of Florida, Gainesville and his medical degree from University of Miami. His post graduate medical training consisted of an internship and orthopaedic residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center. This was followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Riggins is Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has presented at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Southern Orthopaedic Association and the Florida Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Riggins is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Tennessee Medical Association.
Dr. Riggins currently serves as the team physician for Dobyns-Bennett High School, but is directly involved with the athletic departments for all area high schools, including Gate City.
His areas of expertise include arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgeries, ranging from rotator cuff tears, labral injuries, shoulder instability and arthritis in the shoulder to meniscus tears, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament injuries and cartilage lesions of the knee.
Outside of orthopaedics, Dr. Riggins’ passions include his family of wife Marti and 3 children, Rachel, Ellen and Reid. He is actively involved with the Sonrise Emmaus community and his church. He continues to test his limits of athletic endurance in running and road cycling. He has completed 4 marathons and 10 half marathons running, and finished the grueling 102.7 mile Assault on Mount Mitchell bike race on May 21, 2012. Dr. Riggins emphasizes health and fitness in his practice, especially in recovering from an injury or after surgery.
