Dr. Patricia Silveyra is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Humanities at Penn State College of Medicine. Her laboratory studies molecular mechanisms of lung disease, with emphasis on the impact of air pollution on women’s lung health. Her laboratory uses animal models to understand sex-specific mechanisms of lung inflammation in asthma and inflammatory lung disease.

Dr. Silveyra received her BS and MSc in Molecular Biology and biotechnology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and her PhD in Biochemistry also from the University of Buenos Aires. She came to the United States in 2008 as a postdoctoral fellow after being selected internationally for an Ambassadorial Scholarship by Rotary International. In her postdoctoral work, she studied the posttranslational control of surfactant protein genes. She joined the Penn State Hershey Pediatrics faculty in 2012, and she has recently established her independent group.
