Pat Liu grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Madison, Wisconsin. She went to medical school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before doing an internal medicine residency and chief residency at Oregon Health & Science University. Then she worked as an academic hospitalist at the University of Utah where she developed an interest in inpatient addiction medicine, particularly opioid use disorder in the hospital. Her other academic interests include curriculum development, improving addiction medicine training in undergraduate and graduate medical education, and increasing access to methadone.
