Dr. Patricia C. Henwood, MD, FACEP, is a physician executive, educator, and emergency medicine specialist renowned for her leadership in clinical quality, health systems improvement, and global health. She serves as Chief Clinical Officer and the James D. & Mary Jo Danella Chief Quality Officer for Jefferson Health, where she oversees the nationally recognized OnPoint quality and safety program across the health system. Dr. Henwood is also an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College, where she combines clinical practice with academic scholarship.
Dr. Henwood earned her MD from Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia. She completed her emergency medicine residency at the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program and a fellowship in emergency ultrasound at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She is board-certified in Emergency Medicine.
Her career has centered on improving care quality and health equity through multidisciplinary systems approaches, both in the United States and internationally. Dr. Henwood has led Jefferson’s COVID-19 response efforts, including mobile community vaccination initiatives and vulnerable community testing sites coordinated with the City of Philadelphia. She also leads the Capacity Building Award under PCORI’s Health System Implementation Initiative to accelerate evidence-based care adoption in health systems.
Internationally, Dr. Henwood has worked in multiple countries to develop partnerships with hospitals, universities, and public health agencies to strengthen emergency care, outbreak response, and imaging capabilities. Her research interests include quality improvement, infectious disease management, point-of-care ultrasound, and addressing disparities in care for vulnerable populations. She has been the principal investigator on several major grant-funded initiatives and has published broadly on these topics. Before joining Jefferson in 2019, she held leadership roles at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, including Associate Chief of the Division of Emergency Ultrasound and Director of the Fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound and Global Ultrasound Programs.
