Dr. Sharma is an Associate Professor of Medicine, an academic Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist who is the Section Chief of Cardiac Electrophysiology and the Director of the Electrophysiology lab at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL since 2016. Dr. Sharma is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. He serves on the American College of Cardiology EP SAP question writing committee. He is also on the editorial board of the Heart Rhythm Journal and Circulation Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology Journal.

Dr. Sharma has published more than 80 original peer-reviewed publications and over 100 abstracts at major scientific meetings. Dr. Sharma has been an invited lecturer and speaker (nationally and internationally) and has given over 100 talks at major national and international meetings. Dr. Sharma published some of the early work on Permanent His Bundle Pacing demonstrating the feasibility and safety of permanent His bundle pacing and reduced heart failure hospitalizations and mortality with His bundle pacing compared to right ventricular pacing. His paper on HBP as an alternative to biventricular CRT received the award for the best publication of the year at HRS 2019 in San Francisco.

Dr. Sharma is on an expert panel of physicians on His Bundle Pacing that published a position paper on His Bundle Pacing in Heart Rhythm 2017. He has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Nature, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and Heart Rhythm. He was also named the “Next Gen Innovator” in Cardiology in 2017. He has played a pivotal role in starting the Rush Comprehensive Atrial Fibrillation clinic and AF center and has grown the program tremendously. These and many other accomplishments have led to his accelerated promotion to Associate professor and the Section Chief of Electrophysiology at Rush University.
