Paolo Gallipoli MBChB, PhD, MRCP, FRCPath

Paolo Gallipoli is a clinical academic hematologist with an interest in the biology and therapy of myeloid leukemias. He studied Medicine in Naples, Italy, and then moved to the UK for my postgraduate medical training including my Haematology specialty training. He obtained my Ph.D. in Prof Holyoake lab in Glasgow in 2013, studying resistance mechanisms of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) stem cells to BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitors. He then moved to Cambridge to complete my specialty training and worked as a Welcome Trust funded Clinical Post-doctoral Fellow within Prof Brian Huntly lab where I have developed an independent research line focusing on the role of adaptive metabolic changes in the pathogenesis and therapy resistance of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He is clinically active at the Consultant level with a leading role in the design and set-up of clinical trials through my membership of the UK NCRI CML Working Group. He has recently been awarded a CRUK Advanced Clinician Scientist Fellowship to start my independent research program at Barts Cancer Institute studying the role of non-genetic adaptations in therapy resistance in AML.
