Dr. Otmar Schmid is Head of the Pulmonary Aerosol Delivery Group at the Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen/Comprehensive Pneumology Center in Germany and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physics at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA, spent Postdoc time at the University of Denver, USA, and the Max-Plank Institute for Chemistry, Germany. He has more than 15 years of experience in the Physico-chemical characterization of particles and their health effects. His main research topics include in vitro and in vivo toxicity of ambient and engineered particles, mechanisms of particle lung deposition, and Physico-chemical characterization of combustion particles. Recently, he has become interested in therapeutical aerosols including targeted pulmonary delivery of nano-drug carriers.
