Oriol Manual MD

Dr. Oriol Manuel obtained his title of doctor and specialist in internal medicine in Barcelona. He then continued his clinical training in infectious diseases at the CHUV, obtaining the title of FMH specialist in infectious diseases. In 2006, he completed a clinical research fellowship in infectious diseases in transplantation at the University of Toronto and the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Back in Switzerland in 2008, he has since been head of the Infectious Diseases in Transplantation Unit, with the Infectious Diseases Department and the Organ Transplant Center of the CHUV.

Dr. Manuel's main focus of clinical research includes the prevention of viral infections after solid organ transplantation, in particular cytomegalovirus and influenza virus. These viral infections are associated with decreased function of the graft; their prevention is, therefore, essential in order to improve the survival of transplant patients. To do this, he actively participates in the Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS), a multicenter study including the vast majority of transplant patients in Switzerland. This study is very useful because it makes it possible to organize interventional clinical studies in transplantation.
