Omar I. Abdel-wahab MD

Omar Abdel-Wahab, MD, is a physician-scientist focused on understanding the genetic causes of hematological malignancies and developing new therapies targeting these genetic alterations. He is a principal investigator of a cancer genetics laboratory in the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program and an Attending Physician on the Leukemia Service in the Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Abdel-Wahab grew up in North Carolina and completed undergraduate and medical school degrees at Duke University followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then came to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a post-doctoral research fellow in 2007 and joined the faculty in 2012. He has previously received a Damon Runyon Clinical Scholar Award, a Clinical Scholar Award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the Joanne Levy Award for Outstanding Achievement from the American Society of Hematology.
