Omar Al-louzi MD

Dr. Omar Al-Louzi, MD, is a neurologist with subspecialty training in multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuroimmunology, and directs the Visual Outcomes Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Al-Louzi conducts clinical and translational research aimed at identifying novel retinal and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) biomarkers to track MS disease progression.

Dr. Al-Louzi received his medical degree from the University of Jordan in 2013, then completed a research postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins MS Center. He finished his neurology residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Massachusetts General Hospital, and served as chief resident during his last year of training. He went on to complete a clinical fellowship in MS, neuroimmunology, and neurovirology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Al-Louzi has received grant funding from the National MS Society and American Brain Foundation, and is the recipient of the NIH 2020 Fellows Award for Research Excellence. His lab focuses on studying the mechanisms of retinal degeneration and visual dysfunction in MS and related disorders, as well as the development of machine learning and image analysis methodology in MS and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy for disease monitoring and use as outcome measures in clinical trials.
