Oliver Van Hecke MBChB (Pret), DMJ (Clin), MRCGP, FRACGP, DPhil

Oliver van Hecke is a clinical lecturer at the Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. His Ph.D. focused on the impact of AMR in the community and the implications for future intervention. His research interests are in optimizing antibiotic use for common infections in the community and antibiotic resistance. This stems from his work as a generalist practicing in the NHS with the first-hand experience of the difficulties that GP’s encounter.

He is also a key member of the newly established National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Community Healthcare MIC (MedTech and In vitro diagnostics Co-operative) based at Oxford, which aims to speed up the development, evaluation, and use of diagnostic tests. As part of the Infections research team at the University of Oxford, he is keen to foster local, national and international collaborations, especially in resource-poor settings.
