Nuala Lucas MBBS, FRCA

Dr. Nuala Lucas is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Northwick Park Hospital. Her major interest in obstetric anesthesia. She has served as Honorary Secretary of the Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association and is Chair of their Education Sub-committee. Nuala is the anesthetic co-lead for the UK Confidential Maternal Death Enquiries (MBRRACE-UK). She is a senior editor board of the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia.

She was the sole anesthetic member of the guideline development groups for the National Institute of Health & Care Excellence guidelines for cesarean section (2011), intrapartum care (2014) and twins (2019). Her research interests include complications of obstetric anesthesia. She is a co-investigator on the UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS) study of a high regional block in obstetrics, and the Direct REporting of Awareness in MaternitY patients (DREAMY) project – a prospective evaluation of accidental awareness in obstetric general anesthesia.
