Dr. Noriaki Kurita is a professor at Fukushima Medical University (Specially Appointed, Full-time) and is also the chief of the Department of Innovative Research and Education for Clinicians and Trainees (DiRECT) at Fukushima Medical University Hospital. Dr. Kurita supervises students in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Graduate School of Medicine, Fukushima Medical University.

Dr. Kurita graduated from the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine and earned an MD degree in 2004. He then worked for six years at Mitsui Memorial Hospital in Tokyo, where he trained in General Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He is a Fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine and a Board Certified Nephrologist of the Japanese Society of Nephrology. After several years in Tokyo, Dr. Kurita underwent a 4 years doctor course at the School of Public Health at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine and earned a Ph.D. in medicine degree in 2014. Dr. Kurita was invited to join Fukushima Medical University as a faculty member in 2014 and now provides several courses for doctoral students at the Graduate School of Medicine. There, he uses a unique, blended learning approach that combines clinical epidemiology and hands-on biostatistics using a distant learning system. From his class students, clinical research papers have been published in established journals, such as Br J Surg, Surg Endosc, Spine, Eur Spine J, Clin Nutr, Int J Infect Dis, and Emerg Infect Dis.
