Nitin Jain, M.D., M.S.P.H., is a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Population and Data Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Chief of the Section of Musculoskeletal Medicine and Research. He is also UT Southwestern’s Co-Director of Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine and Director of Outcomes Research for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. A sports medicine specialist, he is an expert at treating nonsurgical disorders of the shoulder and knee.

Dr. Jain earned his medical degree at the Baroda Medical College of Maharaja Sayajirao University in India. Following a research fellowship in sports medicine and orthopedics at Duke University and a research fellowship in epidemiology and outcomes at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, he completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He received advanced training in shoulder surgery through a fellowship at the Harvard Shoulder Service. He also holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Jain joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020.

Dr. Jain’s clinical and research interests include shoulder pain and rotator cuff tears, knee pain, regenerative medicine, and platelet-rich plasma therapies, ultrasound-guided injections for pain relief, and sports medicine. He is well-qualified to provide expert opinions on surgical versus non-surgical treatment for these common joint and muscle issues. He has written many articles and book chapters on these subjects and delivered invited lectures far and wide. Dr. Jain has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research in sports medicine and musculoskeletal disorders including genetics.

He is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and he serves as a reviewer for numerous scholarly journals and on various panels for the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies. He serves on several national committees for clinical and policy-related issues in the area of musculoskeletal and shoulder disorders. Dr. Jain is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Shoulder, and Elbow Surgeons, and the Association of Academic Physiatrists.
